Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the incident involving the suicide of Dr. Shahana, the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University of Health Sciences, Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, has declared that if Dr. Ruwise is found guilty by the court, his MBBS degree will be cancelled.
Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal clarified that during admission, an affidavit is obtained from all students, stipulating that if any involvement in dowry, whether receiving, giving, or promoting, is discovered, their degree would be nullified. These directives were issued by the Governor.
The Vice Chancellor stressed that if Dr. Ruwise is proven guilty by the court, the university will revoke his degree. The university has adopted this stance to raise awareness among students against the perils of dowry-related practices. Initially, following directives, affidavits were collected from all students collectively. But now the principal is taking oaths from the students at the beginning of every batch, the VC said.
