THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have added Dr. EA Ruwise’s father to the list of accused in the Dr. Shahana suicide case. This development followed a statement by Dr. Shahana’s mother, alleging that Ruwise’s father also demanded and pressured for dowry.
On December 7, early morning, Ruwise was arrested on charges of ‘Abetment of Suicide’ and violation of the ‘Prevention of Dowry Act’. Following the inclusion of Ruwise’s father in the accused list, the police searched for him at his house and relatives’ houses, but he was found to be absconding.
It was mentioned in her suicide note that Ruwise and his family members were demanding a dowry that was unaffordable for her family. According to Dr. Shahana’s mother, Dr. Ruwise had initially promised to marry Dr. Shahana, but later both Ruwise and his father pressured and demanded a dowry that was unaffordable for the family. Subsequently, Ruwise refused for marriage.
This rejection led Shahana into depression and committed suicide.
Upon verifying the mobile phone records, the police found that Dr. Shahana had sent Ruwise a WhatsApp message in the morning before committing suicide, stating that she would take her own life due to the rejection of the marriage. However, Ruwise blocked her number. The police cited that this would make worsen Dr. Shahana’s mental condition, and committed suicide.
Ruwise had deleted Shahana’s message before his arrest. During interrogation, Ruwise informed the Kazhakuttam Cyber Division Assistant Commissioner that he had received her message and subsequently blocked her number.
