THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The bail application of Dr. EA Ruwise, accused in Dr. Shahana’s suicide case, was rejected by the Thiruvananthapuram Special Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The court deemed the accused’s offense as highly serious.
Dr. Ruwise was arrested on December 7 on charges of ‘Abetment of Suicide’ and violating the ‘Prevention of Dowry Act’. Police investigations indicated that Dr. Shahana’s suicide was provoked by dowry pressure from Ruwise and his family.
Reports suggest that initially, Dr. Ruwise had agreed to marry Dr. Shahana but later demanded 150 sovereigns of gold , 15 acres of land, and a BMW car as dowry. As Dr. Shahana’s family couldn’t meet these demands, he rejected to marry her. This rejection led her into depression and committing suicide.
The police reported that a suicide note found from Dr. Shahana’s apartment sounded that the pressure from the demand of dowry by Ruwise and his family severely affected her mental condition.
