Thiruvananthapuram: BJP Kerala State President K Surendran has raised concerns over the distress faced by devotees undertaking the Sabarimala pilgrimage. Surendran said that the Sabarimala pilgrimage is being sabotaged and the devotees are going through suffering.
Surendran highlighted the ongoing tension between the Devaswom Board and the police at Sabarimala. They are fighting in the name of a virtual queue. The devotees are facing inconvenience by standing in line for hours. He had also questioned the absence of a separate queue promised for women and children at the Nadapanthal area. The BJP leader criticised the failure of the police system and the lack of responsiveness from the Devaswom Board.
Earlier, free drinking water and food were provided to the devotees. The government stopped them all for the hotel lobby. None of this is being discussed in the Nava Kerala Sadas. He criticised Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s reluctance to dispatch a minister or senior official to Sabarimala to investigate the situation. Mentioning the unfortunate death of a girl child due to lack of drinking water in Sabarimala, Surendran said that it was the first such incident in recent times.
