Pathanamthitta: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert in Pathanamthitta district, predicting heavy rainfall. The alert indicates that isolated heavy rain is likely to occur in the district, ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm over the next 24 hours. Commuters and Ayyappa devotees on their wat to Sabarimala may face further challenges if the rainfall intensifies.
Currently, Ilavungal, Plappally, and Ezhumeli-Kanamala Road in Pathanamthitta are grappling with long queues of vehicles spanning a distance of ten kilometers. The situation is dire, particularly in Plappally, as it is a forest area, making it challenging for Ayyapa devotees to access basic necessities like food and water. The presence of leeches in these areas adds more difficulties.
The anticipated heavy rain is expected to cause more problems in the area, making the traffic situation even worse. The rain will slow down vehicles and make the current traffic issues even more challenging.
