KOTTAYAM: The ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign programme faced another controversy. In Ettumanoor constituency, Kottayam district, the police issued a circular mandating the closure of shops near the venue of the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign program. This action sparked public outcry.
Initially, the police issued a circular stating that shops near the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign programme venue in Ettumanoor constituency should remain closed from 6 am on December 14 until the closure of the event. This circular specifically targeted Kovilpadam and Pala roads in Ettumanoor.
However, this strange order sparked controversy, prompting the police to release a subsequent circular stating that shops could operate as usual on the day of the scheduled ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign programme.
The police justified their decision by citing concerns about potential traffic congestion arising from the Chief Minister’s campaign event as the reason behind the initial order to mandatory closure of shops near the venue.
The circular mandating the closure of shops sparked controversy, prompting the police to withdraw it by issuing a new circular.
