Pathanamthitta: An Ayyappa devotee was beaten up by police at Sabarimala. The young man, identified as Kannan, who had gone to Sabarimala from Mudapuram in Chirayinkeezhu, suffered police brutality. He was beaten by the police with a lathi when he approached them to report the loss of his “Irumudi kettu” (a small bag with two compartments that has been filled with Pooja items) during the crowded rush.
According to the victim, he was struck with a lathi, resulting in injuries to his legs and other parts of his body. The young man, who had difficulty walking, was assisted to a nearby hospital in Sannidhanam by fellow devotees for immediate medical attention.
Due to the police assault, Kannan was unable to complete his darshan (auspicious sight of a deity) and had to return to Pamba. The young man returned home and is now unable to go to work due to the leg injury.
