THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The bail plea of seven SFI activists, who attempted to attack the Kerala state Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan on December 11 while he was on the way to the airport from Raj Bhavan, was denied by the Kerala High Court. The Commissioner handed over the report to the DGP without admitting any security lapse in the case.
Simultaneously, the Public Prosecutor expressed less interest in charging the accused under Section IPC 124 (which covers assaulting the President or Governor with the intent to force or stop them from exercising their lawful powers).
Similarly, the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) took the stance that the incident was solely a protest by the SFI and should not be interpreted severely. However, several accused the APP’s stance, citing that it was not suitable for his position.
The defense counsel argued that compensation should be paid for the damage to the governor’s car and that bail should be granted. However, the court rejected the bail, stating that granting it might lead to the misinterpretation that one can do anything if they pay money.
