KOLLAM: The Kerala High Court strongly criticized the Kerala government for organizing the extravagant ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign program. It questioned the rationale behind demolishing the compound walls of public schools for this event.
The court also criticized the lavish spending of public funds for this purpose. Its criticism primarily centered on the demand to change the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ venue from the Chakkuvally Para Brahma temple ground in Kollam district.
Inquiring about the responsible parties for the program, the court directed the Chief Secretary to participate in the case and provide the site plan. Additionally, the District Collector and the Nava Kerala Sadas nodal officer were instructed to submit an affidavit on the matter.
The High Court delivered this scathing criticism while addressing the petition filed by the Hindu Aikya Vedi against the conversion of the Chakkuvally Para Brahma temple ground into the venue for ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ in the Kunnathur constituency of Kollam district.
The Devaswom Board Central School’s ground located at Chakkuvally, Sooranad, is planned as the venue for the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ campaign program. However, the petition demands a change in venue, citing that scheduling the event on the temple grounds violates the law, which stipulates that temple land should only be used for worship purposes.”
