Idukki: A series of developments have emerged in the wake of the court verdict acquitting Arjun, the accused in the case involving the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Vandiperiyar, Idukki. The family of the victim has demanded the quashing of the court’s decision, expressing their intent to appeal against the verdict. The family asserted that they did not think there were any flaws in the investigation. They expressed their discontent, suggesting that the judge had only heard the defence’s arguments.
On the prosecution front, Special Public Prosecutor Sunil Maheswaran Pillai has confirmed his intentions to file an appeal in the High Court as soon as he gets permission from the Director General of Prosecution. The prosecution stressed the need for scientific evidence to support the case against Arjun.
The court’s observation pointed out deficiencies in the police investigation, noting the prosecution’s inability to prove the crime. Arjun’s lawyer disclosed his intention to seek a re-investigation to identify the real culprit behind the crime.
