Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for seven districts in Kerala today and tomorrow, as heavy rainfall is anticipated in the region. A yellow alert has been issued to the districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki today, with Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts also placed under a yellow alert for tomorrow.
The forecasted heavy rainfall is influenced by a cyclonic circulation over the south-west Bay of Bengal. As a precautionary measure, fishing practice has been banned along the Kerala coast and in the Lakshadweep region for tomorrow and the day after.
Meanwhile, rains are expected to intensify today in Tamil Nadu, prompting the issuance of an orange alert in five districts, and by tomorrow, heavy rainfall is predicted in eight districts in Tamil Nadu. The India Meteorological Department has reassured the public that, despite these alerts, there is no need for concern.
