Kozhikode: Amidst strong opposition by Student Federation of India (SFI) against Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan, the latter will inaugurate and attend a seminar at the University of Calicut, conducted by the Sanathana Dharma Chair in collaboration with Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram. The seminar will discuss on the topic ‘Sri Narayana Guru: The Prophet of Renaissance’.
The seminar is scheduled today at 3.30 pm at the Seminar Complex in Calicut University. The Governor will inaugurate the program and will deliver the guest speech. There will be talks by Swami Chidananda Puri of Advaithashramam and Dr. Mahesh C, Assistant Professor of Sri Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode.
The Governor’s decision to attend the seminar comes amid the threat by SFI leaders. The SFI leaders had said that the communist student organization will not allow the Governor to step foot on university campuses. However, the Governor took up the challenge and arrived at the Calicut University. The SFI, in an effort to save face, had staged a protest before the Governor arrived at the campus.
The student organization also had erected banners insulting the Governor. The University authorities and the police officers did not bother to take down these banners. However, when the banners came to the Governor’s notice, he ordered the police to take it down. He asked the police officers if they would allow such a banner against the Chief Minister.
