Alappuzha: A decision by the NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) Mate, allowing those who attended the Nava Kerala Sadas programme to take rest with wages on their regular working day, has sparked controversy in Ambalapuzha. Allegations have surfaced that workers who participated in the Nava Kerala Sadas were instructed to return home, instructing others to take on NREGA work. This incident took place in Ambalapuzha.
A total of 35 workers had signed the muster roll to engage in curry leaf plant cultivation work in the panchayat. Out of these, 12 workers did not attend the Nava Kerala Sadas programme held at Kappakkada in Punnapra for the Ambalapuzha constituency. The mate directed that only those who did not attend the programme should continue working, while others could take rest with wages. As the situation sparked controversy, local representatives intervened, leading to the suspension of NREGA work.
