Thrissur: The students wing of CPI(M), the Students Federation of India (SFI), has insulted Lord Ayyappa, who is venerated by millions of Indians and foreigners alike around the world.
The board was set up at the Kerala Verma College by SFI activists in support of women entry to the holy shrine. The intention of the student organization was to hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.
In the board a woman’s blood stained legs are shown and Lord Ayyappa is pictured upside down between the woman’s legs. The caption on the board begins by saying that everybody are born in the same way.
The BJP has given complaint to the police and the college principal about the board. The party accuses SFI for destroying the religious harmony by picturing the Hindu deity in a poor light.
SFI’s move has come under severe criticism. ABVP and other Hindu outfits have raised their objections against the communist organization. This has led to the removal of the board from the College premises.
Meanwhile, the SFI is facing a backlash in social media. Many are asking if SFI comrades are courageous enough to say that every God and every messenger of God comes through the same way and draw the picture of a person venerated by minority communities in the same way Lord Ayyappa is mocked in the board.
It is not the first time that SFI takes pleasure in depicting Hindu deities in a poor light. Last year the communist student organization had pictured Goddess Saraswati in the nude to poke fun at Hinduism. Though protests were raised no actions were taken against the SFI leaders who were behind it.
The SFI continues to mock Hindu Gods and Goddesses because they have the support of the teachers who are communist activists and belong to the pro-left teachers union.
