Ernakulam: Mariyakutty, a native of Adimali, has approached the High Court against the government for non-payment of welfare pension. She filed a petition questioning the suspension of widow’s pension for five months. Mariyakutty says in the petition that she could not buy medicines due to non-payment of pension.
The petition also requested the court to intervene and take steps to make the pending pension amount available before the New Year. The High Court heard the petition of Mariyakutty and sought an explanation from the government. The High Court has also sought an explanation from Adimali Panchayat. The court will hear the petition again on December 21.
Annakutty and Mariyakutty, took to the streets begging for alms with earthen pots after their pension was suspended for months. They begged for medicine and sustenance. After protesting, the government had given them both a one-month welfare pension.
