Thrissur: In the ongoing investigation into the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank fraud case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned CPI(M) Thrissur District Secretary MM Varghese for questioning once again. Varghese has been directed to appear at the ED’s Kochi office tomorrow at 10:30 AM, marking the fourth round of questioning.
ED has earlier interrogated MM Varghese for over 25 hours during three separate sessions, including an eight-hour session yesterday. Despite the extensive questioning, the ED asserts that Varghese has not been cooperative and has refrained from disclosing crucial information related to the fraud.
MM Varghese has held the position of Thrissur District Secretary for CPI(M) for the past six years. The ED alleges that all transactions within the co-operative bank occurred with Varghese’s knowledge, following instructions from the party. This assertion has led to intensified scrutiny and repeated questioning of Varghese by the ED.
Simultaneously, the ED is expanding its investigation to include other CPI(M) leaders implicated in the scam. Yesterday, the ED interrogated CPI(M)’s former Local Secretary MB Raju and the former Vice-President of Karuvannur Bank, Peethambaran.
