Kozhikode: Student’s Federation of India (SFI), today, blocked new members of the Calicut University Senate nominated by Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan. Nine members nominated by the Governor were blocked in front of the gate and were not allowed to attend the Calicut University Senate meeting in the Senate Hall. These members were blocked by the communist student organization for being close to Sangh Parivar.
Meanwhile, the Governor has sought legal advice against SFI’s action.
While SFI allowed nominees of Congress, Muslim League and the CPI(M), they blocked those who were close to Sangh Parivar. The SFI took control of the gate and began questioning the new members to ascertain their identity. Eighteen new members were nominated to the University’s Senate.
Police subsequently arrested the protesting SFI activists and removed them from the area.
Though, the Governor acted according to his constitutional right in nominating qualified persons to the Senate, the SFI tried to stop the entry of nine members in a bid to stall the voice of nationalism.
