Thiruvananthapuram: In a first, two women have escaped from the Attakulangara women’s prison today evening in Thiruvananthapuram. The jail authorities noticed that the duo had escaped after the inmates were called to enter their cells.
The escaped women are Sandhya from Varkala and Shilpa hailing from Thiruvananthapuram. They were facing trail in a robbery case and jailed at Attakulangara prison.
After news of the escape spread, the jail DGP Rishiraj Singh and DIG Santhosh Kumar has reached the prison to investigate the matter.
The police believe that the duo have left the district. They escaped through the backside of the prison where waste is being dumped. The heap of waste might have helped them to escape without being noticed by anyone.
The shadow police and the Special Branch are on the run to nab the two women fugitives. Their pictures are pasted at railway stations and bus stands.
Meanwhile, the jail authorities are blamed for the daring escape of the women. Investigators are not ruling out the possibility that they might have received help from those working in the jail.
