Kottayam: Yesterday Child Line activists and Welfare Committee had reported to the police that children were being used as labourers in Christian convents. They had also handed over the nun and a resident of Odisha, Nagendran, who had come to collect the children.
However, the police questioned the nun and let her off while taking Nagendran into custody. He is suspected to be the intermediary in supplying children to nunneries in the State.

Surprisingly, the police has been inactive, even after a day, and no efforts are being made to rescue the other children who are trapped in convents as child labourers. It is believed that many other children of under age are sweating it out in Christian convents when they should be sitting at a school near their homes.
