Thiruvananthapuram: The government’s failure to allocate adequate funds to the LIFE project in the state has led to significant challenges. Reports indicate that the government has allocated an insufficient amount for beneficiaries of the LIFE project. Project beneficiaries express frustration, stating that the government is not disbursing the allocated funds in full, leading to difficulties in completing housing projects.
Even the funds earmarked for providing the state’s share to 74,729 beneficiaries for the LIFE project during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 periods have not been disbursed. For the financial year 2023-2024, Rs 525 crores have been allocated in the rural sector, and Rs 192 crores have been allocated in the urban sector. However, only Rs 125 crore has been distributed out of the Rs 525 crores in the rural sector, and Rs 25 crore out of the Rs 192 crores in the urban sector. Out of the total allocation of Rs 717 crores, only Rs 150 crores have been received by the beneficiaries.
The situation in 2022-2023 is equally dire, with Rs 255 crores allocated for the rural sector and only Rs 250 crores disbursed. For the urban sector, where Rs 95 crores were allocated, only Rs 50 crores have been disbursed out of the total allocation of Rs 335 crores. This shortfall in funds is causing significant difficulties for project beneficiaries in both urban and rural areas.
