Thiruvananthapuram: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists were thrashed by the police after the student organization took a march to the Secretariat to protest against the government’s move to implement the controversial Khader Committee Report.

The police brutally lathi charged the protest march by ABVP activists just before they reached the Secretariat. Surprisingly, he police moved against the students without any provocation from the protestors.

The police used heavy force to suppress the democratic protest of ABVP activists. Tear gas and water cannons were used on the young protestors to disperse them violently. Many ABVP leaders including State Secretary, Manu Prasad, were injured. The injured have been rushed to different hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram.

After the brutal crackdown on the march, the police proceeded to forcibly arrest ABVP activists including women. The ABVP has decided to strongly oppose the Khader Committee Report and has planned to widen their protests against the government’s move to implement the report.

The Secretariat witnessed violent scenes after the police began lathi charging the students. The place turned into a war zone as tear gas and water cannons were used against ABVP workers.

ABVP has called for a strike in all the educational institutions in the state tomorrow in protest against the violence unleashed by the police towards ABVP activists.
