CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 38th Convocation ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Chief Minister MK Stalin also shared the stage with the PM during the ceremony.
The Prime Minister presented awards to outstanding students. His visit to the university is part of a two-day trip to South India, during which he will also visit Lakshadweep and Kerala.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived today morning in Tiruchirappalli and was received by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Governor RN Ravi, and other dignitaries.
Modi interacted with the students at the University. Addressing the convocation ceremony of the state-run Bharathidasan University, he quoted the ‘Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom’ Tamil verses of poet Bharathidasan, after whom the university is named.
Modi is the first Prime Minister to address the convocation ceremony of the varsity, established in 1982.
PM Modi also inaugurated the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, developed at a cost of more than Rs 1,100 crore. During his visit, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth more than Rs 19,850 crore in aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education sectors.
It is scheduled for PM Modi to address a mass gathering of women at Thekkinkadu Maidanam in Thrissur on January 3. More than two lakh women from various fields will participate in the event titled ‘Sthree Shakti Modikkoppam’ (Women Power with Modi).
