Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP State President, Sreedharan Pillai, today demanded a CBI inquiry into the brutal killing of Rajkumar in police custody. He said that the death knell of law and order is ringing in the state. He also said that Kerala is becoming the state with the highest number of custodial death.
Sreedharan Pillai said that the police is incapable of investigating the custodial killing in a proper manner and demanded the government order a comprehensive probe into the death of Rajkumar.
Meanwhile, the jail DGP Rishiraj Singh has asked for a report from the DIG concerning the custodial death. He has given four days for the detailed report to be submitted to him.
The move comes after the government asked for a report from Rishiraj Singh.
The custodial death of Rajkumar has raised concerns about the police brutality in Kerala. There is widespread backlash against the Chief Minister for allowing such crimes to take place within the ranks of the police. Interestingly, the home ministry is headed by the Chief Minister himself in Kerala.
Rajkumar who was taken into custody for a loan fraud case was brutally tortured while in police custody. His health deteriorated and was admitted to hospital where he soon succumbed to his injuries on 21 June.
The postmortem report reveals that Rajkumar was subjected to extreme torture that has led to his death. The internal injuries he sustained during the beatings led to pneumonia which led to his death.
Recently, the police has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Custodial deaths, lapse in investigation, cold blooded murder by police officers, etc. have made people to question the efficiency of Pinarayi Vijayan in controlling and disciplining the police force of Kerala.
