Pathanamthitta: The supply of ‘Aravana Payasam,’ the primary prasad at Sabarimala, remains in crisis due to a shortage of containers. Currently, pilgrims are restricted to receiving only five bottles of Aravana each.
The crisis escalated when the number of Aravana bottles distributed on demand, initially set at 10 per pilgrim on Sunday morning, was further reduced to five on Monday. Devaswom Board officials have cited a shortage of containers as the cause of the problem.
Devaswom Board officials have assured that additional containers are expected to arrive today. The contract for containers used in Aravana distribution was initially granted to two companies. The shortage emerged when one of these companies failed to provide the required containers. In response, two additional companies have been assigned the contract to manufacture the essential containers. The Devaswom Board said that the crisis would end with this.
Before the crisis, Sabarimala distributed up to three lakh bottles of Aravana daily. However, since Sunday, only half of this quantity has been distributed.
