IDUKKI: The parents of the 6 year-old child who was raped and murdered in Vandiperiyar met with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
The parents requested the Chief Minister to appoint a special prosecutor, as they have been suggesting in the case.
The Chief Minister informed the parents that the decisions will be made soon after discussing the matter with the DGP. The girl’s father stated that they would file a plea to be a party in the case.
On December 15, the Special Fast Track Court in Kattappana acquitted Arjun Sundar, citing investigation lapses and the police failure in submitting evidence to the Court.
Following the verdict, the distressed mother of the child and her relatives expressed outrage at the court premises. They attempted to attack the police jeep transporting the accused. The mother and relatives voiced their dissatisfaction, asserting that justice had not been served for the victim.
The incident to the case took place on June 30, 2021, involving the sexual assault and murder of a six-year-old girl. Arjun Sundar, who was a local DYFI activist was arrested in connection with the case had initially confessed to the crime.
