Thiruvananthapuram: The Land Board has submitted a report implicating CPI(M) leader and former Thiruvambady MLA George M Thomas in a surplus land case. According to the findings, the government-designated surplus land, supposed to be confiscated, was allegedly sold by Thomas to another individual. The report highlights that the one-acre land, initially sold to Augustin in 2001, was later repurchased in the name of Thomas’ wife.
In an apparent attempt to evade Land Board scrutiny, the land was sold in 2002, only to be re-acquired in 2022 under the ownership of Thomas’ wife. The investigation revealed that the complaint against George M Thomas, asserting his possession of over 16 acres of surplus land, was valid. The Land Board’s report also noted ongoing construction of a two-storied house on the disputed land. As a response to these allegations, the Vigilance department has initiated its own investigation into the matter.
