THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala state government employees have not receiveing housing loan subsidies for the past five years. Reports indicate that a decision was made to develop new software online to streamline the project, causing this issue.
Despite this government initiative, the subsidy has been stopped.
This situation arises amidst a halt in various benefits previously accessible to government employees due to the ongoing economic crisis. Previously, employees received a housing subsidy of 3.25%, allocated based on seniority (first come, first served).
Five years ago, it was announced that the implementation of new software would enable direct government payments to employees’ salary accounts under a new scheme. However, since then, the employees still have not been receiving the subsidies.
However, several other dues by the Kerala state government to its employees also remain outstanding. Meanwhile, the Kerala Governor warns the government about initiating lifetime pensions for Ministers’ Personal Staff amid the state’s financial crisis.
