CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government has submitted an affidavit to the Madras High Court that it will not unfairly restrict the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) ‘Patha Sanchalan’ (route march) in Tamil Nadu. This affidavit was in the contempt of court case against Tamil Nadu government.
Earlier RSS submitted a permission seeking letter to the Tamil Nadu police department to conduct 33 scheduled ‘route marches’ in several occasions such as Independence Day, Vijayadashmi and Ambedkar Jayanti. But, the permission was denied by the Tamil Nadu police.
Following this RSS approached the court. After hearing the plea the court ordered to grant permission to RSS to conduct Patha Sanchalan with conditions.
But, later police tactically rejected the permission.
In response to this contempt of court cases were filed on behalf of the RSS against the police at Tamil Nadu High Court.
Subsequently, as directed by the court, with the guidance of the Home Secretary and DGP prepared a draft guideline with conditions to allow the RSS route march. And submitted to the High Court.
Government submitted the draft guideline to the High Court, Dr. Justice G Jayachandran and affidavit that no restrictions will be imposed unfairly.
The Tamil Nadu state has filed the affidavit containing instructions as per the Supreme Court order.
Further, the Madras High Court closed the contempt case filed against Home Secretary P Amudha and DGP Shankar Jiwal.
