IDUKKI: CPI(M) leader and Udumbanchola MLA MM Mani used unparliamentary language against Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. Mani used abusive words against the Governor while speaking about the Land Amendment Bill of the Kerala. He also alleged that Governor Arif Mohammad Khan is intentionally not signing the Land Amendment Bill 2023 proposed by the Kerala government. However, earlier, the Governor clarified that he can sign only after a complete analysis of the Bill.
Meanwhile, the Governor received a request from Green Kerala Movement (GKM), an environmentalist group, to return the Kerala Government Land Assignment (Amendment) Bill, 2023, as it could lead to a major environmental disaster in the Western Ghats. Ecologists expressed concern in their request letter against the Kerala state government’s support for constructions and quarrying in eco-sensitive regions. The amendment seeks to regularize quarrying and is perceived as a political benefit for the ruling party.
In response, the Governor highlighted that the Kerala Government Land Assignment Act of 1960 restricts land assigned under it to agricultural purposes, house construction, and public roads, aligning perfectly with Kerala’s current situation.
Mani announced that the LDF Idukki District Committee plans to organize a hartal on January 9, 2024, the same day the Governor is scheduled to arrive in Idukki to participate in the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi (KVVES) meeting at Thodupuzha . He urged Left leaders to boycott the Governor’s program on January 9.
Previously also Mani had repeatedly used unparliamentary and abusive language against opposing parties during media appearances, causing widespread viral controversies.
