Thiruvananthapuram: Government to change the colour of the overcoats of the cleaning staff in the Secretariat. As per the latest government order, the workers are now mandated to wear black overcoats during their duties. A sum of Rs 96,726 has been sanctioned by the government to facilitate the purchase of these new uniforms.
The financial allocation has been directed towards procuring 188 black overcoats from the Kerala State Handloom Development Corporation. A purchase order has already been issued to the corporation, covering the cost of the material and including GST. Each piece of material is budgeted at Rs 514. It is the first time that workers are being financially supported in acquiring their uniforms.
This move comes amidst a backdrop of recent incidents involving the Chief Minister’s hatred towards black colour, instances of police aggression towards those displaying black flags, and alleged violence by the personal guards of the chief minister. Workers at the Secretariat express concern over the colour choice despite the government mandate.
