THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP Kerala State President K Surendran has vehemently criticized the Kerala state government following the tragic suicide of farmer Jose in Kannur district. Surendran stated that the anti-farmer policies of the Pinarayi government led Jose, a farmer from Pathanpara in Naduvil, Kannur district, to take his own life. Surendran’s comments were made in response to the incident that occurred yesterday.
Surendran emphasized that farmer suicides in Kerala are becoming a distressing trend, attributing this to the denial of rightful benefits to farmers by the Left government under Pinarayi Vijayan. He stressed that this incident is not an isolated one. He highlighted the harm caused to Kerala’s farmers due to the government’s failure to disburse the necessary funds. Surendran also criticized the government’s allocation of significant funds for extravagant campaigns like the ‘Nava Kerala Sadas’ and Keraleeyam function, despite claims of severe financial crisis.
Jose, who cultivated bananas on his 15 cents of land, reportedly borrowed money from a self-help group. The mounting financial pressure to repay these debts drove him to take his own life. Despite immediate efforts by family members to rush him to the hospital, Jose did not respond to treatment.
