PATHANAMTHITTA: An Ayyappa devotee at Sabarimala complained of being attacked by the police while passing through the ‘Pathinettam Padi’ (Sacred Eighteenth Step to Sannidhanam) in the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple. It is reported that Rajesh, a Bengaluru native, was beaten up by the police.
The injured devotee received treatment at the Sannidhanam Government Hospital following the incident that occurred yesterday evening. Rajesh had arrived to visit Sabarimala with a group of 22 devotees from Bengaluru. While passing the ‘Pathinettam Padi,’ a six-year-old boy, the son of one of the devotees in the group, was with him.
Rajesh stated that the police attacked him, alleging that the child was moving slowly while passing the ‘Pathinettam Padi’.
Two days ago, Dayanandh, a native of Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, also faced a similar attack by the police. There have been multiple complaints of mistreatment by the police towards devotees in Sabarimala. Reports suggest that the on-duty police officers are behaving like goons.
