THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rahul Mamkootathil, Youth Congress Kerala State President, was arrested today by the Kerala police. He was arrested from his house in Adoor, Pathanamthitta district, in connection with his involvement in the Secretariat march. He was taken to Thiruvananthapuram after he was arrested by the Cantonment Police, Thiruvananthapuram.
The Congress party strongly condemned the police action that took place in the early morning.
Congress leaders stated that the police creating a scene by surrounding Rahul Mamkootathil’s house in the early morning, resembling the arrest of a terrorist, is unfair.
Rahul Mamkootathil’s arrest was related to his involvement in the Youth Congress’s Thiruvananthapuram Secretariat Protest that took place on December 20th, 2023. It is alleged that during the protest, Youth Congress members violently attacked the police and were involved in destroying public property.
Police have also filed cases against those who participated in the protest, including the Kerala State Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, MLA Shafi Parambil, and other senior leaders of the Congress party.
