Nedumkandam: The Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the state Government for the brutal custodial torture that led to Rajkumar’s death. Human Rights Commission Member P Mohandas has asked why Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who assumes Home Minstry, has not yet taken any action in this issue. Chief Minister does have responsibilities. P Mohandas has also told the state is not implementing Police Act. Police inquiry against the police itself will not be proper. An independent Agency must conduct probe on the custodial death, he added.
Meantime, the remand report clearly mentions that cause of Rajkumar’s death is brutal torture. Report mentions the barbaric torturing methods Rajkumar went through while under custody. Police had beaten Rajkumar in the building in front of the police station. Police used iron rod to beat Rajkumar’s soles and the brutal custodial torture led to pneumonia and then to death. Rajkumar suffered the brutal practice of rolling heavy rods all over his body. After torture, CPO Niyas arranged a masseur and paid Rs. 2000 for doing massage.
Police Complaints Authority Chairman has visited Nedumkandam police station and collected details. Chairman will also visit Peermedu subjail today.
Rajkumar’s mother Kasthuri complained that she is not at all happy with the present inquiry and reiterated the demand for CBI probe.
