Muvattupuzha: A case has been filed against Arch Bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly diocese, Cardinal George Alencherry, for trying to sell 25 acres of land illegally.
The Cardinal was sued by an Ernakulam resident, Martin. The court has summoned the Cardinal on 8 July.
Cardinal George Alencherry, who is the Cardinal of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The bishop was ousted from his position earlier in an allegation of illegal financial transactions dealing of land belonging to the Church.
However, he was reinstated as the head of the Ernakulam-Angamally diocese recently which caused an uproar among the priests. The priests opposed the decision of the Vatican to reinstate a tainted Bishop back to his old post when the case is still ongoing.
Yesterday around 250 priests of the diocese gathered to protests against the Vatican’s decision and said that they would not cooperate with George Alencherry. The new complaint against the Cardinal will further tarnish his credibility among the laity and the general public.
