Ernakulam: The High Court has criticized the SFI (left-wing student organisation) activists in the case of attacking Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s vehicle. The High Court held that the allegations leveled by the prosecution against the accused were serious and criminal.
Strong political ideas and sudden excitement in student union activities lead many to hooliganism. This kind of excitement is shown without thinking about the consequences. But when you get closer to reality, you end up in jail. The High Court pointed out that there should be creative spaces and exchanges of ideas to prevent this.
The weapon of education loses its luster due to criminal activities. Students should be the architects of the future. Students should never be known for the mistakes they commit. The court also directed that students should not use the power of knowledge for destruction.
The SFI attack on Governor took place around 7pm on December 12, 2023, when the Governor was going to airport to catch a flight to New Delhi. SFI workers first waved black flags at him near Kerala University library where some protesters even banged on the Governor’s car. There were attempts to wave black flags at him at the General Hospital junction also. At Pettah though, the Governor stopped his car and came out daring the protesters, who were shouting slogans against him accusing him of trying to saffronize universities.
