Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has initiated disciplinary action against three employees for the improper use of diesel. The individuals facing actions are P Biju (driver, Parassala depot), Ranjith Ravi (conductor), and K Santhosh Kumar (garage in-charge, Parassala depot). The incident that led to this disciplinary action occurred during an inspection on December 9 by KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Biju Prabhakar.
The inspection revealed that a bus stationed at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Depot, Neyyattinkara-Kaliyakkavilai bus bay, had its engine running for over 20 minutes while passengers were boarding. During questioning by the CMD, the temporary driver cited a malfunctioning self-start function as the reason. Reports indicated that the driver responded rudely when questioned by the CMD.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the permanent conductor had not intervened or instructed the driver to turn off the engine. Additionally, the garage in-charge failed to address reported vehicle issues, including the malfunctioning self-start.
Considering the violation of rules pertaining to the improper use of fuel, disciplinary action was taken against all three employees. Authorities emphasise the significance of such actions, particularly at a time when KSRTC is grappling with fuel expenses, which constitute 50 percent of its total revenue.
