Kozhikode: The daily newspaper, ‘Madhyamam’, which is controlled and managed by the Jamaath-e-Islami, has put out a cartoon today depicting the Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman doing a Thandav dance on top of a poor Indian citizen.
The cartoon, which was published today morning, is widely seen as insulting to womanhood and makes fun of the Nataraja pose in which Hindu God is usually pictured.
Madhyamam daily tried to criticize the budget presented by Niramala Sitharaman through the cartoon and a news article critical of the budget. The social media has reacted fiercely to the newspaper’s sense of ethics when it insults the first woman Finance Minister who presented a full time budget in India. By depicting her doing Thandav on top of a poor Indian man has really irked the social media.
The news article has conveniently avoided mentioning the social sector spending and pro-women initiatives include in the budget.
It must be noted that the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was highly regarded for her efficiency in dealing with Islamic terrorism and her strong handling of the defence ministry in her previous stint as the Defence Minister.
Interestingly, Jamaat-e-Islami is under the scanner of the Central government for its role in terrorism related activities.
Modi government’s demonetization, putting a lid on rampant foreign fund flow, and restraining religious propagation had infuriated the Jamaat-e-Islami, which has used its publications to criticize Narendra Modi time and again.
