Thiruvananthapuram: The state of Kerala is burdened by debt, causing a severe economic crisis that is now impacting the Kerala Police. The police are facing critical financial shortages, hindering their daily operations, with even the rental of a helicopter put on hold.
The State Police Chief urgently requested Rs 49 crore for essential needs like weapon upgrades. A plea for help in the fuel crisis was sent by the Director General of Police to the finance department earlier this month, with police vehicles now limited to just five litres of fuel per day, severely affecting normal patrols. The police owe Rs 1 crore in fuel company dues, leading to restrictions on station vehicles serving the public.
