Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced the implementation of a QR code payment system to pay electricity bills. KSEB has informed that the necessary measures for the implementation of the QR code payment system have been finalised and will be rolled out shortly.
The new system, scheduled to come into effect on March 1, will also incorporate metre readings into the bill payment process. Authorities says that the introduction of the QR code payment system is anticipated to enhance convenience for users. The new system for bill payment and meter reading has been established through a collaboration with Canara Bank.
As of now, consumers can settle their electricity bills using various online platforms, such as GPay, Amazon Pay, Paytm, and other online methods. The introduction of the QR code payment system is expected to simplify the process further, providing users with a seamless and efficient means of transaction.
To facilitate payments through credit and debit cards, swapping machines have been strategically placed at metre reader’s locations in homes. Almost 53,000 swapping machines has been established for this purpose, underscoring the commitment to making the payment process accessible to a wide range of consumers.
Currently, around 60 percent of users opt for online payment methods. In response to the increasing trend of online payments, the KSEB has made the decision to reduce the number of physical bill counters.
