Ernakulam: Sun Pharma, a leading private pharmaceutical company, has filed a petition with the High Court, seeking Rs 9 crore in arrears for medicines supplied to Karunya Pharmacy by the government’s Health Department. The company alleges betrayal by the government and the Health Department. Company emphasized that despite the financial strain, they continued supplying medicines to Karunya Pharmacy, crucial for the well-being of the general public.
Sun Pharma, responsible for providing 35% of life-saving medicines to the 52 Karunya Pharmacies across the state, claims that bills for dispensed medicines were regularly submitted to the Health Department. However, payments, which used to be released after 45 days, have been pending for the past six months, leading to significant financial challenges for the company. The petition highlights the company’s attempts to communicate with the Health Department and the Medical Services Corporation through multiple letters, all of which have gone unanswered.
The company, bound by an agreement with the Medical Services Corporation, commits to delivering medicines within seven days of ordering. These medicines are then sold by the government through the state’s Karunya Pharmacies, generating a seven percent profit. The petitioners have urged the court to intervene and compel the government to settle the outstanding dues. In response to Sun Pharma’s plea, the court has sought clarification from the Health Department.
