Thiruvananthapuram: Both riders in the bike should wear helmets and back seat passengers in the car too should use seat belts, says Transport Principal Secretary K R Jyothilal.
The State is planning to make the rule mandatory, which had been suggested by the Supreme Court five years back. Transport Principal Secretary has written a letter to the Transport Commissioner mentioning the State is not taking Supreme Court Road Safety Authority’s demand seriously.
K R Jyothilal has also noted in his letter that the top court had earlier made it clear as pillion riders too must wear helmets and all passengers in cars must use seat belts, but this rule is not being practiced properly here.
Transport Principal Secretary also told that insurance companies have the right to reject compensation and hospital expenses in accident cases if the clients are not abiding these rules.
