Kozhikode: Writer, screenwriter and director Yadu Vijayakrishnan has been selected for this year’s Durgadatta award of Tapasya Kala Sahitya Vedi. The award consists of Rs 10,000 and a certificate of appreciation. The award will be presented to Yadu Vijayakrishnan at the Tapasya Annual Festival to be held in Kanhangad on February 10 and 11.
The jury responsible for determining the award comprised Prof. PG Haridas, the State President of Tapasya, along with Dr. V Sujatha, an author, and U.P. Santosh, a documentary filmmaker and folklore researcher.
This award is given to literary talents below 40 years of age in memory of Poet and essayist K.N. Durgadattan Bhattathiripad.
Yadu Vijayakrishnan is the son of eminent film critic Vijayakrishnan. Yadu was a member of several film juries earlier. Currently he holds the position of an advisory panel member of Central Board of Film Certification.
Yadu has done many short films and documentaries. His Sanskrit film Bhagavadajjukam won 11 national and international awards. 21 Months of Hell, a documentary film by Yadu, about the torture methods performed by the police in India during ‘The Emergency’ created a huge response. Tales of Lord Shiva and The Story of Ayodhya are his notable literary works.
