Thiruvananthapuram: State Police Chief Shaik Darvesh Saheb has issued a directive urging the police force to maintain decorum and respect while interacting with the public. The directive follows the High Court’s intervention regarding multiple instances of impolite behaviour involving police officers in public settings.
The Director General of Police (DGP) said that officers of all ranks within the police department are constitutionally and legally obligated to speak and behave respectfully towards the public. An order issued by the DGP stipulates the use of only polite language by police officers when interacting with members of the public in the course of their duties.
To ensure the effective implementation of these guidelines, the order mandates all district police heads and unit heads to conduct awareness classes for subordinate officers. The objective is to make officers thoroughly aware of the importance of respectful behaviour towards the public during their interactions. The order states that the behavior of police officers will be monitored, and stringent actions will be taken against those found violating the directive.
