Thiruvananthapuram: Mariyakutty from Adimaly, Idukki district, criticized the Kerala government for not increasing the social welfare pension in the Kerala state budget presented by the State Finance Minister KN Balagopal today for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Mariyakutty said that the social welfare pension amount should be increased to at least Rs 2000. She added that the government has not mentioned anything about social welfare pensions. At present, Rs 1600 is given as the social welfare pension amount to the beneficiaries every month. However, that amount of Rs 1600 is also not being disbursed for several months by the Kerala government.
Mariyakutty said that omission of social welfare pension in the Kerala budget is a challenge for the beneficiaries.
Last November, Mariyakutty faced several criticisms for her direct protest against the Kerala government for not disbursing welfare pension for several months. On November 8, Mariyakutty staged a protest in Adimaly holding a begging pot and claimed that the Kerala government had forced her into a situation of begging. Her protest video went viral, and the Kerala government faced several criticisms for not disbursing welfare pension on time.
