Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) disconnected the electricity supply to the renowned Vellayani Devi temple due to non-payment of bills by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The action was taken after the temple authorities failed to settle an outstanding amount of Rs 96,426 by the deadline, which was Monday.
On Tuesday morning, KSEB officers arrived at the temple premises and proceeded to disconnect the electricity supply. Consequently, the temple area plunged into darkness, disrupting daily activities and inconveniencing devotees. To mitigate the situation temporarily, authorities arranged for a generator to provide lighting.
The sudden electricity disconnection had an immediate impact on the daily rituals and activities at the temple, disrupting the usual flow of operations. Devotees and nearby residents began protesting against the incident.
