Thrissur: The sale of ‘Bharat’ brand rice has commenced today in Kerala, starting with Thrissur. It has been announced that ‘Bharat’ rice will be available in the coming days.
The ‘Bharat’ brand rice packets are reportedly available in retail markets, following the earlier announcement by Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, stating that rice packets in 5kg and 10kg sizes will be sold at Rs 29 per kg.
The distribution responsibility lies with organizations such as Nafed (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd.), the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF), and Kendriya Bhandar.
In the initial phase, the Central government has allocated five lakh tonnes of rice for retail market sale. There are several reports indicating that products under the ‘Bharat’ brand are rapidly gaining popularity.
Earlier, the Central government introduced the retail sale of ‘Bharat Atta’ at Rs 27.50 per kg and ‘Bharat Chana dal’ at Rs 60 per kg, which also received significant popularity.
