Thrissur: The central government initiates the distribution of ‘Bharat rice’ in Kerala through vehicles operated by the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India Ltd. (NCCF) under the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
Rice, sourced from Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns, is being efficiently delivered to various locations in the state, with efforts underway to cover the entire region by next week. In Thrissur alone, 150 sacks of rice were sold within two hours. Rice and pulses, sourced from Food Corporation of India godowns, are distributed through the Millers Association.
Earlier, onions were sold at Rs 25 per kg. Additionally, efforts are underway to introduce online purchasing options for essential commodities. Under this initiative, Ponni rice is available at a subsidised rate of Rs 29 per kg. In addition to rice, the initiative offers chickpeas at a lower price compared to the general market, priced at Rs 60 per kg.
