Thrissur: The Central Government’s initiative Bharat Rice was a major success among the people. Bharat Rice was launched in Thrissur on Wednesday and saw 15,000 kilos sold out by the end of the day. The rice was brought from FCI godowns on NCCF’s vehicles and was sold in 5 kg and 10 kg packets. An individual is entitled to 10 kg of Bharat Rice at Rs.29 per kilo.
Many people were seen waiting for the arrival of Bharat Rice, which was available at Thrissur town, Mannuruthi, and Puthukkadu areas. The loads of packets that were brought on the NCCF vehicles were sold out within moments, highlighting the high demand among the consumers. People also flocked to ration shops and FCI godowns enquiring where Bharat Rice is sold.
Bharat Rice will be made available across every district in Kerala within one week. It is believed that this initiative of the central government will help rein in inflation and help people procure rice at lower prices. The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution had taken the initiative to sell rice at Rs.29 per kilo to every person.
The Ministry is also selling Bharat Atta for Rs.27.50 and Dal for Rs.60. Earlier the Ministry had also sold onions for Rs.25.
