Wayanad: Locals in Mananthavady have called off their protest following an all-party meeting’s decision to grant a permanent government job to Ajeesh’s wife. Ajeesh, aged 46, was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Wayanad on Saturday. Additionally, the meeting approved the transfer of Rs 10 lakh, announced by the government as emergency financial assistance on Monday.
The district collector also stated that a recommendation will be made to the government for the release of the remaining Rs 40 lakhs out of the Rs 50 lakhs requested by the family. ‘Since the head of the family has passed away, it was assured in the party meeting that all the debts would be written off’, Ajeesh’s relative responded.
After the decision on compensation was made in the all-party meeting, Ajeesh’s body was taken to Wayanad Medical College for post-mortem. It has been decided to transfer the elephant to Muthanga elephant camp after tranquilizing it. However, locals are demanding that the elephant be killed.
